The anterior cervical approach is a well accepted procedure in the midst of the spine surgery community. Perhaps more than in other procedures, in anterior cervical surgery, a painstaking attention to the detail is one of the key factors to the therapeutic success. This is demonstrated by the broad range of incidence of complications in the different series, in contrast to the quite homogenous incidence of recurrent herniation in lumbar disc surgery.
